Who is responsible
Cedarwhirlscand Ltd, company no. SC792418, is responsible for personal information it handles in connection with this website and editorial correspondence. Our registered office is 42 George Street, Edinburgh EH2 2LE, United Kingdom. Contact [email protected] with privacy questions.
The correspondence tool
The Contact page generates plain text entirely in your browser. Its script does not submit the name, email address, article selection or note to a server, and does not store a draft in cookies or localStorage. Copying places text on your device’s clipboard when you permit it. Downloading creates a text file on your device. You control those copies and should protect or delete them as appropriate.
Closing or reloading the page may lose your draft. Browser features, extensions or device backups operate independently of this website. If you send the generated note through your own email service, that service processes it under its own terms.
Information received by email
If you email us, we receive your address, message, any name you supply, attachments and ordinary email metadata. We use these to read and answer correspondence, investigate corrections and maintain a proportionate editorial record. Do not include payment details, identity documents or sensitive personal information that is unnecessary for your enquiry.
Our usual lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating an independent publication and responding to readers. Where processing is required by law, the basis is legal obligation. We do not use editorial correspondence to enrol you in marketing.
Technical information and service providers
Delivering a webpage necessarily involves technical request data such as an IP address, requested file and browser information. Hosting and email providers may process technical or message data to deliver and secure their services. Such data is used for service operation and security, not for building advertising profiles through this site’s supplied code.
We do not sell your personal information. Access is limited to those who need it for the relevant editorial or operational purpose. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. If a service arrangement involves a restricted international transfer, applicable legal safeguards must be used.
Retention and your rights
Correspondence is retained only as long as needed to address the matter and keep a relevant editorial or legal record. Unnecessary duplicates and irrelevant personal details should be removed. A correction may justify keeping the factual source record longer than the routine exchange that accompanied it.
Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. We may need proportionate information to establish your identity. Some rights have exceptions, including where records are needed for legal obligations or claims.
You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would also welcome an opportunity to address your concern directly.
Cookies, external links and updates
